Cricket – St Martin’s V Tresco

Report by Colin Daly

According to the fixtures list, the match against Tresco and St. Martin’s on Sunday 10th July is the last for a while.

It has been a very agreeable mini series and this 25-over match rounded things off nicely.

The weather on St. Martin’s was fine but not too hot.  The home team won the toss and put Tresco in to bat.

A. Moore batted steadily and was joined by D. Hamilton.  A. Moore was out for 30 and D.Hamilton scored 41 before being out to a great low catch by C.Hinds.

Joe Badcock (on loan from St. Mary’s) scored 16; the total team score of 138 looked good enough to give a possible close result. Seven of the Tresco team were bowled out with J. Smith taking 4 wickets and A. Morton 3.

The opening pair for St. Martin’s of J. Morton and C. Hinds put on 65 at a fairly steady rate until C. Hinds was run out for 25. J. Morton went on to score 40.

T. Goddard came in and scored a spectacular 30 which included four sixes. So, well up on the run rate now, wickets were starting to tumble. H. Driscoll took 4 of them, but the home team scored the 139 required to win for the loss of 7 wickets with 5 overs left.

A complete match and series analysis was undertaken at the St. Martin’s Hotel.
