Men Rescued From Capsized Yacht Off Scilly

RNAS rescue helicopter from RAF Culdrose

The Culdrose helicopter crew undertook a brave rescue last night after a yacht got into trouble 75 miles south west of our islands.

Falmouth Coastguard picked up the distress beacon message at 10.40pm

The Swedish owned yacht, the Andrieet, was returning from the ARC race when damage sustained to the rudder the previous day forced the men to get into the life raft.

It then capsized and one of the crew fell into the water in high seas. The 193 Squadron helicopter plucked him and his colleague to safety.

The two Dutch nationals were taken to Falmouth but didn’t need hospital treatment.

The yacht is still adrift and they are discussing recovery plans today.
