Scilly Most Entrepreneurial Place In Britain Says New Survey

Businesses in Hugh Town

Forget the conventional wisdom that London is the centre of entrepreneurship in Britain.

Figures calculated by Accountz, a software firm, show that Scilly is more entrepreneurial than London – and, in fact, the most entrepreneurial place in Britain.

The data shows that the Isles of Scilly has a business for every 9 people, whereas London lags behind with a business shared between 15 people.

The UK average is a business per 24 people.

Quentin Pain, Chairman of Accountz, says the Isles of Scilly is a hotbed of entrepreneurs and family businesses and he says and its residents should be “proud of their contribution to Britain’s economy.”

He also said that three of the top three places in the list are islands, with Orkney coming in second.

Quentin thinks the island location probably makes people more self-sufficient. He also says island businesses might be more ‘intelligent’ than mainland businesses, having to find ways to succeed in a small market.

The places with the lowest score for entrepreneurs are Barking and Dagenham, Easington and Blaenau Gwent.
