Wine Club Hands Cheque For £500 To Shelterbox

Members of the St Mary’s wine club have handed over a £500 cheque to the Rotary Club for their Shelterbox appeal.

Shelterbox has a team of volunteers trained and ready to respond to any global natural disaster and the fund provides emergency tents packed with items such as tools and water purification kits.

Wine Club members meet monthly and pay for the cost of the wine, giving leftover cash to the appeal.

Tony Acharya, who organises the Wine Club meetings, says the club is a great way to mix socially while at the same time raising money for charity. He says it’s a key milestone for them, having got to the first £500 raised. They’re now trying to raise a further £300 for the appeal.

At a ceremony to hand over the cheque, Tim Guthrie from the Rotary Club said he was grateful for the donation, telling the group that Shelterbox is a charity that gives the greatest percentage of cash possible to the cause and takes out few costs.
