Cricket – St Mary’s Shine Against St Martin’s

Report by Colin Daly

On a fine summers evening, the last in June, St. Mary’s arrived promptly at 5.45pm for a T20 match on St. Martin’s.

The home team won the toss and put the visitors in to bat first.

Early wickets fell but Mark Twynham, coming in at 6, scored an impressive 45 before falling, bowled to T. Goddard.

Mark Hicks scored the same, giving a total for St. Mary’s of 142 all out on the penultimate ball of the innings.

C. Hinds and A. Spencer took two wickets each and Matt Kerrigan did well to replace the injured Barney as wicket keeper.

However St. Martin’s did not bat as well as they fielded and were all out for 76, only C. Hinds and J. Smith reaching double figures.

T. Gilbert and “Sprog” Woodhead did most of the damage.

Your reporter was glad to be back umpiring after injury last Sunday.
