Woman Airlifted From Scillonian III ‘Doing Well’

The Steamship Company’s marketing manager says she’s grateful to her colleagues who helped yesterday after a day trip visitor was flown off the Scillonian III while suffering with severe chest pains.

Jackie Hayman says Mrs Lee was with a Shearing’s Holiday Group when she became unwell around 30 minutes out of Penzance.

The Culdrose rescue helicopter was requested by a doctor travelling on board and the ferry retreated to a more sheltered part of the coast, near Mousehole, so the patient could be winched up without having to deal with the strong winds.

Jackie says she was treated in hospital and is doing well. Her husband was assisted from the boat at St Mary’s by Luke Paulger, who took him to the airport.

Mr Lee was flown back to the mainland on Skybus and transferred to Treliske.
