Lifeboat Open Days Start Tomorrow

St Mary's lifeboat 'The Whiteheads'

It’s the Lifeboat Open Day tomorrow (Sunday) and over the next few weeks the lifeboat will be on show at Tresco, St Martin’s and St Agnes.

Lifeboat Launch Authority Chris Thomas says it’s a costly operation to maintain, and the Open Day is a great way to show the public the vessel while raising funds for the service.

He says families will able to come on board and see everything from the engine room to the flying bridge. They’ll also be able to meet the crew and ask questions about their work. He says a lot of visitors are surprised at how hi-tech the lifeboat actually is.

Chris told us the visits to the off-islands allow people staying there the chance to take part and he says it’s the first time he can remember including St Agnes in the visits.

The lifeboat will be on St Mary’s Quay on Sunday from 11am to 5pm
