Islanders Competing In Dartmoor Cycle Race

Last year's Dartmoor Classic Cycle Race

A group of islanders are heading to Dartmoor tomorrow to take part in a challenging cycling race.

Ruth and Duncan Nicholls, Helen and Julian Pearce, Amy Hiron and Colin Jenkins are cycling in the Dartmoor Classic Cyclosportive 2011.

Duncan told us that the 106 mile course across Dartmoor, starting and finishing in Kingsteignton, is reasonably tough, with about 3000m of cumulative height gain.

He’s been training for a while around St Mary’s and told us that, although the island’s small, you can still build up significant distance using various routes.

Duncan’s hoping for a time of between 7 and 9 hours but told us he’s worried it’s going to be a hot day on Dartmoor which could  make things tough.
