Lifeboat Called Out As Yacht Runs Aground

St Mary’s lifeboat was called out last night to help a yacht which had already been the subject of coastguard activity earlier that evening.

The 31ft yacht, The Morgen, was travelling from Newlyn with another vessel, The Isla Maraca, when the pair got split up.

Isla Maraca was concerned that Morgen was overdue and called Falmouth Coastguard, who got hold of the skipper of the yacht on his mobile at 10.39pm.

The Coastguard holds yacht details on their ’66 ‘ scheme, which allows free online registration of vessel description and owner details.

However, later in the evening, at 2.10am, The Morgen ran aground near Porthmellon beach.

The lifeboat used their small rib to get the boat off the bottom and onto a buoy.
