Cricket: St Mary’s Suffer Home Defeat To St Martin’s

Report by Colin Daly

On a fine Thursday evening (16th June) on St. Mary’s, St. Martin’s beat the home team in a T20 cricket match.

St. Martin’s began by winning the toss and decided to bat first, scoring 121 for 9.

Tony Goddard top scored, with a free hitting 29 before being caught by Ben Jakes off T. Gilbert.

Pixie took three wickets and Sprog Woodhead two.

K. Goddard got St. Mary’s off to a good start by scoring 21 but was dismissed by a catch near the boundary.

C. Hinds took three wickets and Matt finished off the last two wickets for a St. Mary’s total of 54.

It was good to see so many younger players enjoying the game.

The Mermaid saw the bragging rights of St. Martin’s exercised before the boat took them home in high humour.
