We Won’t Kill Seals Says Scillies’ Fishermen

Fishermen in our islands have voluntarily agreed to stop deliberately shooting the grey seal, a protected species.

Fishermen are legally allowed to kill the marine mammals if their fishing catch or equipment has been damaged.

It’s called the Netsman Clause of the 2007 Protection of Seals Act.

That’s concerned wildlife and conservation groups operating here.

Now, the Isles of Scilly Fishermen’s Association will enter into a no-shoot agreement with Natural England.
