Scilly Art Group Work On Display

Residents and visitors will have the chance to see the work of talented islands’ artists in one room today.

The islands Art Group open day runs from 10am until 6pm at the Masonic Hall.

Being an artist can be a lonely affair and the group arranges regular Tuesday get-togethers for members to paint or sketch together.

Art Group member, Bobby Hayes, told us it’s a great way to pass the winter months in Scilly.

Bobby says his daughter bought him an art set for Christmas a couple of years ago which just got left on a shelf, but when he was encouraged to join the group, it brought out the budding artist in him.

He added he’s never really thought of himself as an artist and at school “got chucked out of art class every week for talking.”

He thinks the guidance and advice he’s received at the Art Group has helped him develop his skills. And it’s inspired him to paint in his own time too.

Bobby says that the standard of the amateur artists in the group is fantastic – he’s always amazed with what the other members produce.

The group meets every Tuesday 2-4pm during the winter months.
