Thrilling Finish to Tresco Triathlon

Rob Carrier winning the Tresco Triathlon

Stormy conditions and choppy waters brought last minute changes to the second Tresco Triathlon yesterday.

The swim was relocated from New Grimbsy to Old Grimbsy where the sea wasn’t so rough.

And in a thrilling finish, Rob Carrier came in just ahead of Mark Worledge.

Rob’s time was 1hour 14 minutes and 50 seconds with Mark just a second later.

The event had a longer bike ride this year which meant times were slower than the 59 minutes it took the winner in 2010.

Organiser, James Druce says he was a bit unsure it would go ahead first thing in the morning due to the atrocious weather but they put the backup plan in place and changed location and he felt it went really well. He added that the competitors seemed happier with the flat water at New Grimsby and spectators got a better view.

Race winner, Rob says he didn’t really have a strategy. He just swam as hard as he could, although the shorter swim meant he didn’t pull away from the rest of the competitors as much as he’d planned.

He added the race was really tough and Mark was pushing him all the way round.
