Cricket – St Mary’s Beat Tresco By 59 Runs

Report by Ben Jakes

On Thursday 9th June, Tresco entertained St Mary’s for a T20 match.

Tresco won the toss and put St Mary’s into bat.

It was not a good start for St Mary’s as Josh Birch had to retire hurt, hit on the middle wicket with no box on, but things improved as Mark Twynham scored 30.

Once he was out, this bought Brad Hawker and Joesph Badcock together, who took the attack to Tresco, both scoring 51 not out quickly.

St Mary’s declared once they had both got their 50’s, ending up on 169 for 3 off 19 overs with Andrew Lawson the pick of Tresco bowlers taking 2 for 15 off his 4 overs.

Tresco innings started badly, losing their first opener for one, but then Andrew Lawson steadied the ship scoring 38 and his partnership with John Taylor who also scored 38, took Tresco’s total to over 100.

Tresco ended up 110 for five off their twenty overs.

Surprisingly the pick of the St Mary’s bowlers was James Francis who took two in two balls to finish on 2 for 21.

St Mary’s won by 59 runs in what was an enjoyable game.
