Theatre Club’s Latest Production Opening Tonight

Theatre Club Supremo, Maggie Perkovic

The St Mary’s theatre club begin their Summer season this evening.

Between now and September, Presents Laughter, a comedy by Noel Coward will be performed twice a week, fortnightly.

Tonight’s performance in the Town Hall has been produced and directed by Maggie Perkovic, who says staging a play by a ‘big name’ playwright such as Noel Coward always draws the crowds.

There are plenty of new cast members this time with a recent influx of younger blood into the amateur players group.

Neil Middleton of the Atlantic Hotel is new on stage with the club and takes the lead role.

And Maggie made particular mention of the set, which she says is incredible. She says it makes the small stage look much bigger and Owen Groombridge has worked ‘like a trojan’ to get it ready, right down to the last 40s-era details.

The club has won a number of awards  for their Summer productions and hope that 2011 will be no exception.

Maggie says you have to be careful with script content – last year they upset one attendee because of suggestive lines, but she’s undeterred, adding there’s a bit of naughtiness going on in this play too.
