Artist Says Tresco Sculpture Is His Finest Work

Artist David Wynn with his sculpture, Gaia

A World-renowned artist has come back to Tresco and says the island hosts his finest work.

David Wynn created the Tresco children statue and his art has been commissioned for Highgrove and Hyde Park Corner. He’s also created portraits of the Beatles, Prince Charles and the Queen.

But as Tresco Abbey Gardens curator, Mike Nelhams told us, following a recent visit by the artist to the island, David considers his statue Gaia, sculpted in 1990, the piece he’s most proud of.

Sorry, I should have made it clear that Florence has the biography of David Wynn, which is illustrated throughout with photos of all David’s sculptures and his paintings and illustrations.
Florence worked for the family in a personal capacity and saw many of the great works as they evolved. Her favourite is ‘Boy with Dolphin’ (3-11-12)

Florence has just re-read your biography and has many fond memories of the time she worked for the family at their Wimbledon house in the 1960-70’s.
