Cricket – St Martins beat Tresco

Report from Colin Daly

Doves cooed. The haze flickered. The world stood still.

The 25 over match between St. Martin’s and Tresco on Sunday afternoon, 5th
June, started in warm sunshine with Tresco winning the toss and putting
the home team in to bat first.

Captain Barney Maclachlan was glad to hear this decision as about half his team were running late, which dictated the batting order.

Wickets fell steadily until Jon Smith and Tony Goddard came together and top scored with 39 and 49 respectively.

St. Martin’s finished on 182 for 8 after the slow start; Tresco’s A. Lawson taking 4 wickets and P. Marshall 3.

After tea Tresco went in to bat and clouds came over to cool the day.  An early run out seemed ominous and only H. Driscoll put up any determined resistance scoring 20.

Tresco were all out for 76; the bowlers sharing the glory.

The teams retired to Lower Town for dissection and discussion of the game.
