Big Turnout At Stride For Life

Competitors in yesterday's Stride for Life in aid of Cancer Research

101 runners and walkers took part in yesterday’s 4th Stride for Life walk and run.

The event raised £706 for Cancer Research UK.

The first man to finish was a visitor who didn’t know the event was on until half an hour before the start. Chris Gloucester, an experienced runner, completed the 5km circuit around St Marys in 21 mins and 8 secs. Chris’ family holiday here regularly.

The first local home was Martin Douglas – he came second overall in 21 mins 17 secs.

Suzanne Lea was the first woman in with a 25 mins 20 secs finish with Helen Pearce, who has been running for around 20 years, the first islands-based female runner completing in 27 mins 12 secs. Helen’s husband Julian finished ahead of her.

Organiser Beryl Read is happy how the event went. She says that there was a lovely atmosphere and thanks everyone for their support for the event.
