Sun Shines For Mayday Ceremony

Yesterday's Mayday ceremony in Hugh Town

The Park area of the town was filled with colourful flowers yesterday afternoon as the traditional May Day ceremony took place.

The generations-old ceremony is a chance for schoolchildren to sing about their islands home and choose a May Queen, before dancing around the maypole.

This year, Lucy took the role of May Queen and Brandon was The Captain of the Guard and both had been practicing hard for their singing roles.

Ethan was Captain of the Band and told us they kept tangling the maypole in rehearsal but they’d ‘got it sorted’ for the day.
