Parade Flats To Get Makeover

Parade Flats in Hugh Town

A building in the centre of town that has attracted much negative criticism for its unkempt appearance is set to be painted.

The Council owns Parade Flats and renovating the exterior of the  building between Bordeaux Shop and Tideline hasn’t been easy.

It’s  listed so the Council’s conservation officer had to approve painting plans.

It was thought that stripping off the render and revealing the stone underneath would be preferable but the costs ran into thousands of pounds.

So it should be painted to its original pastel shade in the next few weeks, as soon as Mark Wright has finished his current project of installing the lift at Park House.

The cash for the paint job is coming from a general maintenance fund of the council  and won’t come from rent money from those in council housing.
