School Pupils Attend 999 Week

Steve Dredge, Drug Liaison Officer with Devon and Cornwall Police

Pupils from our islands have been learning about life from an Emergency Service perspective this week.

Nineteen year nine pupils at the Five Islands School have been on exercises with the ambulance service and Scilly fire fighters and today they willl see a mock trial so they can better understand the legal process.

Yesterday the sessions at the army cadet hut were about drugs. Steve Dredge, Drug Liaison Officer at Devon and Cornwall Police says our islands’ kids do know about drugs and their dangers.

The main drugs kids will come across here are cannabis, amphetamine and so called ‘legal highs’ – which Steve says are not always what they seem – often containing class B drugs such as mephedrone.
