Weather Blights Busiest Cruise Ship Day

St Mary's Harbourmaster, Dale Clark

The busiest cruise ship day to date in Scilly has been blighted by the weather.

The choppy conditions on the water meant one of the ships couldn’t bring passengers ashore and decided to call it a day at around 11am on Saturday.

St Mary’s Harbourmaster, Dale Clark, says it was a shame that’s the Spirit of Adventure didn’t wait until later when he believes they could have successfully taken passengers to the islands.

Dale says they were ‘gutted’ that the ship decided to leave but adds that safety of the vessel and any boats in the vicinity is the priority in these situations.

He’s still very proud that the islands have managed to attract three ships at once, and looks forward to welcoming the vessels again in the future.
