Man Rescued In St Mary’s Harbour

The yacht, Kioni, in St Mary's Harbour

RNLI volunteer crew members and local Coastguards were called out on Saturday evening after a man fell into the water in strong winds in St Mary’s Harbour.

Crew on board the yacht, Kioni, radioed Falmouth Coastguard at 10.45pm saying a 60 year old male, who was not wearing a life-jacket, had gone overboard.

The St Mary’s lifeboat and rib were launched and, following a quick search, located the man clinging to a dinghy. It’s estimated that he man was in the water for around 20 minutes.

The male was taken to St Mary’s hospital as a precautionary measure but was not thought to be in a serious enough condition to require a mainland medical evacuation.

Falmouth Coastguard say he is lucky to be alive and it could have been a tragic end to a holiday if he had been in the water 5 minutes more.
