Treliske Hospital operator, the Royal Cornwall Hospital Trust, has been fined a total of £11,500 for putting patients in mixed sex wards.

The previous Labour government originally planned to scrap mixed sex wards but eventually condeded that this would cost too much.

However, the new coalition government says they will scrap mixed sex accommodation in all wards except intensive care and A&E.

Fines for hospitals were introduced last month, with hospitals being fined £250 for every day a patient remains on a mixed sex ward.
