St Mary’s Demolish Devon Football Defence

The visiting football team from Plymouth might have been confident in their Facebook messages to St Mary’s footballers.

But they also might have underestimated the ability of the island footballers on Saturday.

The Plymouth team were beaten 6-0 and then lost again on Sunday by  7-3.

Chairman of the football club, Chas Wood, says that apart from the occasional win by visiting Mal de Mar players, he can only remember one occasion where the visiting side were victorious.

He says there can be a perception by mainland teams that the standard of football on our islands is not very good and they assume we don’t have a clue adding that this couldn’t be further from the truth
