Rescued Trawler On Fire Again

The Faroese trawler Athena, which had to be rescued 200 miles southwest of the Isles of Scilly last October is reported to be on fire again.

The factory trawler caught fire this morning while in the Faroe Islands port of Skalfjord, leading to the evacuation of residents in the area.

The ship is carrying 18 tonnes of ammonia.

Over 100 crew members were rescued in the fire last year, most by a passing container ship that responded to distress calls.

The Athena also suffered a fire in July 2007 off the coast of Chile and had just returned to service after a refit in China before the fire off the Scillies.
