St Mary’s Hall Seeking Local Food Providers

Joan Shiles, General Manager of St Mary's Hall Hotel

St Mary’s Hall Hotel say they’re trying a different approach with local food supply and menus and they need local providers to tell them what they have.

The Hotel has recently joined the sustainable restaurant association and according to General Manager Joan Shiles, they need to believe in and show commtment to sustainable foods to be eligible.

Joan says island producers will now drive what gets on the menu and she wants to hear from local growers about what they can supply.

Joan is especially keen to hear from tomato growers as she is planning a series of tomato-based menu items to mark British tomato week from May 15th.

Joan says she also wants to hear from any divers that can hand dive for scallops as they can’t put them on the menu until they have an ethical source. Unauthorised scallopers who dont have rights to use our waters are often accused of creating damage to the seabed and the new islands’ sea fisheries vessel, the Matt Lethbridge, will be used to patrol for boats that illegally dredge for scallops.
