Scilly First to Declare Referendum Result

The Isles of Scilly was the first area in the country to declare their results in Thursday’s AV referendum.

The Scilly result was declared just after 4.30pm but our islands were actually ready ten minutes earlier – town hall staff were unable to reach the official who gives permission for the result to be made public despite repeated phone calls.

Residents voted by 542 to 288 against changing the current first-past-the-post system. There was a 48% turnout.
