Council Drops Ban on Social Networking

It’s official. Town Hall staff can now poke each other on Facebook!

After 2 years of blocking social networking sites from Council Offices, Town Hall staff in Scilly can now view Facebook again.

We understand that staff had argued that, with the widespread use of the site, staff were being hindered in their everyday duties. This issue was highlighted during the travel problems at the weekend.

In a letter to all staff, Peter Lawrence says the barring of the site has hindered Economic Development and the TIC as well as the Community Relations department which handles press releases.

However, the council has implemented some ground rules – staff have been told they can’t spend too much time on the site, sound off against the Council or its staff and they can’t share inappropriate material.
