Art Scilly Launches

Vic Heaney

A week-long programme of events that will showcase the art on our islands and give locals and visitors a chance to have a go is launching this evening.

Art Scilly will run until May 14th and combines open studios with hands on try-out sessions in a variety of art forms from stained glass to unusual Japanese raku pottery.

Dr Vic Heaney says the idea is to give visiors and locals a chance to have a go and learn more about what we have on offer at the time in the season when artists have more time to talk about their work and demonstrate it.

The event was launched with a reception at the Phoenix studios on Porthmellon. Tomorrows’ programme of events is centred on St Agnes’s reading room, not the islands’ hall as published.

A wide range of classes will be available, including stained glass, bookbinding, watercolours, stitching and quilting.
