Council Gets Cash for Potholes

Some of St Mary’s potholes could be repaired after the Government announced extra cash for the Town Hall.

There’s an additional £100 million of funding across the country to enable local authorities to repair the significant road damage that resulted from the unusually harsh winter this year.

Last night, Cllrs heard that we’ll get just over £24,000 in addition to the £55,000 maintenance budget for the 7 miles of road on our main island.

David Pearson told the meeting that he’d like to think that the Council can put the money together and try to fix the areas most in need, naming Hugh Street as needing some attention.

Marian Bennet says that she’d like to see evidence to show that the money has gone down potholes.
